I just purchased 2 greyhound tickets for a trip in cali. I've read that they commonly lose luggage... is there anyway i can prevent this from happening? keeping a close eye on the luggage as they unload it maybe?
I was thinking maybe I could tell them that I didn't want anyone touching my luggage and I needed to load it myself for personal purposes (like I'll have a mental breakdown or something) I know it's a bad lie but I honestly think I might freak out a little if they load and unload it themselves. I really can't lose the luggage considering it will honestly ruin my vacation. Maybe putting a bright red bowtie or something on it might help? What do you think? any suggestions?|||Loosing luggage usually happens when you have to transfer to several buses to complete your journey. If you do not need to change buses you shouldn't have any problems. The driver will unload the luggage compartment in your presence in most terminals. Enjoy your trip, and don't worry about your luggage.

Look on your tickets for the "Carrier Code". In California, and some other southwestern areas some Greyhound routes are contracted out to Mexican based bus lines whose drivers and equipment may not meet U.S safety standards. The 'Carrier Code" for Greyhound trained drivers using Greyhound owned, and maintained equipment is "GLI".

Just curious. If you really live in California why are you referring to it as "Cali"? "Cali" is both a drug city in South America, and a ghetto slur word specifically intended to insult Californians. The correct abbreviation for California is "Cal".|||I have ridden on Greyhound before. Unless you are pregnant or disabled, they make you keep your bags with you when you are not on the bus. I do like your idea of tying something onto the handle for easy ID of your bag. However you usually need to show your ticket when you retrieve your bags. your ticket has your baggage check number on it and that is how Greyhound and most other bus companies do it. Now if you get on the bus at a rural stop (no structure just a sign) you wont get a baggage claim until you pay for your ticket at the next station. Always always always have something attached to your bag with your name, address, and maybe your phone number. Greyhound usually provides these for free to their passengers, but new bags also usually come with them. also you can place a business card inside the bag too.
If they have absolutely lost your bags - you can file a claim with them. Most Bus tickets come with a $250 (it was that amount when i was riding the dog) baggage insurance policy per fare paying customer. It may not completely cover the cost of your bag and contents, but it is better than nothing at all|||it may not be honest but you need not to prove anything....tell them your disabled and they will load and track your bags before anyone else 's luggage gets on the bus. also you get on the bus frist and so on. otherwise i can tell you from personal experiance if you can mail your lugge ahead of time to your hotel and let the consige know it comming etc good luck they loose it all the time. addtionally amtrak does the same thing for you and you get free meals and lugge transport also plus 15% off your ticket no proof of dis abilty needed unless traveling witha service canine.
